This past legislative session the City of Des Moines worked very actively with Senator Karen Keiser and Representative Tina Orwall to successfully pass SSB-5370. That Bill creates a new commission to review sites for Washingtons next primary airport.Senator Karen Keiser and Representative Tina Orwall showed great leadership in building a strong coalition that enabled this bill to become law. Commission members are now being selected and a new airport location is to be selected by January 1, 2022.While a new airport will not replace Sea-Tac, it will allow for growth in flights to take place elsewhere in the region.This bill was one of the City of Des Moines legislative priorities and City Councilmembers actively helped in lobbying for its passage.STREET BANNER PROGRAM Learn.
